The Danger of Sitting For Long

Friends, let’s look at SITTING FOR LONG HOURS AND FORMATION OF BLOOD CLOTS IN LEG VEINS

Sitting at one place for more than 4 hours increases one’s risk of formation of blood clots in the leg Veins. This condition is called Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), which can be life threatening

One of the things we must do to Prevent formation of blood clots in leg veins is, to have atleast 5 minutes walk around after sitting for 2 hours. This allows blood flow in the leg Veins, and prevents clots formation which can be dangerous to our lives

When we attend meetings or programmes that require sitting for long hours, conscious effort must be made to have short breaks after every 2 hours, to allow people walk around to improve blood circulation

People travelling long distance, should stop at advantage points and walk around for about 5 minutes before continuing. Travellers on flights longer than 4 hours should get up and move around after 2 hours, even if it’s just for a minute or two. They should also take the opportunity to walk and stretch between connecting flights

Blood circulation can also be improved during long sittings by Stretching our legs, Flexing our feet, Curling or Pressing our toes down, and NOT crossing our legs, in order to Prevent formation of Blood Clots in the Leg Veins
