RISK FACTORS increase the likelihood of Adolescents/young people exhibiting negative behaviours

RISK FACTORS are also grouped into three categories:

3) ENVIRONMENTAL RISK FACTORS

INDIVIDUAL RISK FACTORS:

Mental health problems (eg. depression)

Sexual abuse

Intellectual impairment

Early Puberty

Impulsivity/hyperactive

FAMILY RISK FACTORS:

Authoritarian/neglectful parenting

Parents’ alcohol/drug abuse

Family mental illness

Socioeconomic status (extremes)

Single parent

Over crowding at home

Family violence

ENVIRONMENTAL RISK FACTORS:

Lack of good role models

Access to drugs, alcohol, weapons etc.

Access to unlimited internet, social media, TV/videos

Negative cultural practices (eg. child marriage, male dominance, gender based violence etc.)

Unemployment
