| Adolescents are people from age (10 to 19) years The period of transition when one grows from being a child into adulthood is called adolescence and it’s also from (10 to 19) years. Youth refers to people from age (15 to 24) years. Young people are those from age (10 to 24) years. Adolescence period can be categorized into three; 1. Early adolescence (10 to 13) years 2. Middle adolescence (14 to 16) years 3. Late adolescence (17 to 19) years All definitions above are from the World Health Organisation (WHO). Each of these categories has it peculiar characteristics and challenges. Knowledge of these characteristics and challenges will help us understand and support our Adolescents better to navigate successfully through the challenging adolescence period into a successful adulthood In the coming days I will be walking us through some characteristics and challenges of Adolescents and young people and how we can support and usher them into a responsible adulthood Stay tuned and watch this space. |
